How to make an export packing list with consistent row totals
Packing errors often come from mixing pieces with cartons, single-carton weights with row totals, or counting shared cartons twice. Decide which physical packages each row represents before entering the PL.

1. Use confirmed warehouse records
Collect the product models, piece quantities, physical package counts, net and gross weights and outer dimensions. DHL Malaysia's document guide identifies goods, packaging, weights and dimensions as packing list information. Use the current packing records rather than quotation estimates.
Record the related invoice reference in notes when useful, and match shipping marks, carton ranges and pallet descriptions to the physical shipment.

2. Keep pieces and cartons separate
In the fictional example, 100 organizers occupy cartons 1–5 and 50 trays occupy cartons 6–10. The shipment has 150 product pieces and 10 cartons. These totals describe different things and should not be interchanged.
| Goods / carton range | Pieces | Cartons | Net kg | Gross kg | CBM |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Organizers / CTN 1–5 | 100 | 5 | 40 | 45 | 0.300 |
| Trays / CTN 6–10 | 50 | 5 | 30 | 35 | 0.200 |
| Total | 150 | 10 | 70 | 80 | 0.500 |

3. Enter consistent weight and volume totals
The sample uses row totals. Its first row has 40 kg net and 45 kg gross; entering a single carton's 8 kg net weight would understate that row. Include the corresponding packaging in the gross weight without mixing measurement scopes.
For five outer cartons measuring 0.50 m × 0.40 m × 0.30 m each, the combined volume is 0.50 × 0.40 × 0.30 × 5 = 0.300 CBM. Convert dimensions to metres before calculating, and confirm the final measurements with the warehouse.

4. Explain mixed-carton allocations
When two products share one carton, entering one carton on each product row and adding them creates an incorrect total of two. Agree on the warehouse's row structure and explain the allocation using carton ranges, custom columns or notes.
Do not add the same packaging weight twice. Maodantong sums the values entered in the rows; that calculation cannot determine whether your physical carton allocation is correct.

5. Reconcile with the invoice and export
Open the PL editor, enter the packing data and review totals, marks and notes. Match descriptions and total pieces with the commercial invoice, then select the document language and orientation, save and export a PDF. Confirm the required shipment paperwork with the relevant shipment partners.
